A Day at the Lake

Shawnigan-Lake

If you’ve stumbled here looking for a delicious, healthy recipe, fear not! I’ve been in the kitchen creating lots of loveliness to share with you, however, this is a little travel interlude brought to you by Canada’s west coast. Specifically, Vancouver Island.

I will give you a little food snap to get things going. This was my breakfast on my first morning before heading up to the lake.

Leftover steak salad from Fifth Street Bar & Grill in Victoria. Great as dinner and surprisingly great for breakfast as well. Who knew? 🙂

I enjoyed it on my sister’s deck and the whole. time. I was thinking how I could steal her fork. Photo styling is always on my mind and how great are those vintage looking utensils?

After my unconventional breakfast I was off to Shawnigan Lake with Julie, my lifelong best friend and favourite partner in crime. Growing up Julie’s family spent time almost every summer at Shawnigan Lake which about thirty minutes outside of Victoria. Now, Julie has a family of her own and the lake is still tradition. My tradition is to crash the party every year that I can. I love the lake and, more importantly, I love spending time with Julie and her family.

Can we talk about the view from this kitchen?

Then let’s talk about the counter space. I turned totally green with envy.

Then I turned red with a sunburn. Happens every year.

The day was young and the sun was shining so we went for a long swim. See the islands to the middle and left of this picture?

We swam out to one and back. The water was the perfect temperature and the kids kept us company paddling along side in the peddle boat. They also kept us safe from getting run over by boats cruising by with water skiers or wake boarders in tow.

After our swim, Julie’s husband took the crew out for a spin in the boat. We were entertained by her son who recently started wake boarding and is already a natural. Not surprising, considering his dad is also an excellent wake boarder. My lake skills include being a boat passenger and an accomplished sun tanner/burner. 😉

Afterwards, I was spoiled rotten with food. Curried crab crostini, caesar salad with fresh bacon, cheeseburgers off the grill and even a champagne toast. Being the chief cook in my house it was such a treat to have an entire meal not only prepared, but served in such an amazing setting. On a sun filled deck, over looking the lake. Heavenly.

I was counting my blessings as the sun dipped down.
